Recycling

The recycling of glass, a valuable material, is an old story: archaeological excavations often announce the discovery of sites where glass pieces were collected and reconverted. The rarity of glass object finds is sometimes also explained by their collection for recycling. Written sources also attest to the collection and recycling of glass as early as the 1st century AD. This practice became even more important at the end of antiquity. In Avenches (Canton of Vaud), the largest glass waste dump in Switzerland was discovered.

Recycling in Switzerland

The Swiss are world champions in waste recycling, and they are also assiduous recyclers of glass. Regulations, laws and advertising campaigns actively promote recycling.
